Musician, poet Ben Weaver to perform at MMAM

(8/7/2019)

Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) musician and poet Ben Weaver will be performing a free concert at MMAM on Thursday, August 8, from 6-7.

Weaver is a songwriter and poet who travels by bicycle and uses his music as a tool to strengthen relationships between people and their local ecosystems. His most recent project, Music For Free, involved him riding 3,000 miles from Canada to Mexico along the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route with his guitar and banjo, making stops on the route to offer free performances to communities along the way. Weaver has completed many wilderness-music-by-bike tours and released nine studio albums and five books of poetry. Given the choice, he will side with the animals, lakes, rivers, and the trees.

This event is free thanks to the generous support of Ernest and Sally Micek in memory of W.B. “Bill” Gautch.

There is always something new to experience at MMAM, the nonprofit art museum that engages visitors in meaningful visual art experiences through education and exhibitions that explore the ongoing and historic human relationship with water. MMAM’s historic collections include works by Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh, O’Keeffe and more. The museum is located at 800 Riverview Drive in Winona, and is surrounded by acres of native prairie gardens along the Mississippi River. Gallery and MMAM Store hours are on Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information is available at www.mmam.org.
