The Winona wrestlers traveled to Albert Lea for a dual meet this past Thursday and came through with a good effort. Illness and injury kept a couple wrestlers out of the line-up, but the Winona grapplers won five of the eight matches wrestled, all by pin, in a 52-30 loss. Ryan Henningson, Logan Henningson, Lance Thorn, Tyler Nachtigal, and Zander Rusert picked up falls for the Ramhawk Matmen.
The Winona squad wrestled in the 12-team Century Invite, finishing sixth, with only five wrestlers in the varsity tournament. Ryan Henningson, Tyler Nachtigal, and Zander Rusert all won championships with Lance Thorn finishing fourth. Henningson won by a 12-3 major decision in his final match, Tyler Nachtigal pinned a ranked opponent from Simley, and Zander Rusert defeated a ranked wrestler from Wisconsin by a 7-1 score in the finals.
Brennin Speltz and Shawn Mugo both won titles in the JV portion of the tournament. The next action for the Winona crew will be on Thursday when they travel to Rochester for a dual meet with Century.
Tyler Nachtigal pinned the #1 ranked 195-pound wrestler in the state from Simley. By the way, the 100th victory was over that #1 ranked wrestler.
