Governor Tim Walz has declared July 2019 Hire a Veteran Month in the state of Minnesota. Governor Walz’s proclamation encourages all Minnesota employers to help connect military service members with employment opportunities during the month of July, and to continue hiring veterans throughout the year.
“Veterans returning from deployments face higher unemployment rates and experience more challenges entering the workforce,” said Governor Walz. “I encourage all Minnesota employers to give veterans the uppermost consideration when hiring.”
As part of Hire a Veteran Month, Minnesota veterans are encouraged to attend the 13th annual Veterans Career Fair taking place on Wednesday, July 24, from 2-6 p.m. at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, Minn.
Hosted by the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA), this event is the largest veterans career fair in Minnesota, and connects veterans looking for a job or exploring new career options to employers. Veterans, active military members and their spouses are invited.

“More than 153,000 Minnesota veterans are of working age,” said DEED Commissioner Steve Grove. “DEED’s Veterans Career Fair is a way for Minnesota employers to connect with these experienced, resourceful leaders.”
“Veterans are leaders who take initiative when something needs to be done,” said MDVA Commissioner Larry Herke. “The men and women who have worn the uniform are driven to succeed. They are poised and ready for their next mission — their mission back home in Minnesota.”
DEED is the state’s principal economic development agency, promoting business recruitment, expansion and retention, workforce development, international trade and community development. For more details about the agency and its services, visit the DEED website or follow DEED on Twitter.
